Tilicho Lake Trek
The 14 days of Tilicho Lake Trek via MesoKanta Pass is one of the most remarkable trekking experiences the Annapurna region can provide. The Tilicho Lake trek combines the Tilicho base camp trekking with Annapurna circuit trails.Tilicho Lake is the main highlight of this trip by being the highest located lake in the world at 4919m. Mythical and historical aspects surround this lake as it is considered a holy lake in the Hindu scripture of Ramyana. The turquoise lake is filled by glacial melts of northern slopes of Thorangla peak and Annapurna.Here it is surrounded by Himalayan ranges like Annapurna I (8091m, Chulu peak (6584m), Tilicho peak (7000m) and Dhaulagiri(8168m).
The Annapurna circuit trail is also known as MesoKanta La pass.It is famous for strong afternoon winds. At 5099m the MesoKanta La pass offers unobstructed views Mount Manaslu(8163m), Mount Annapurna I( 8091m), Mount Dhaulagiri(8167m) and many more at their full glory.
The trek begins from Kathmandu with a 6 hour drive to Beshisahar. The drive is filled with scenery of beautiful pastures and greenery. Tilicho lake trek starts from Beshisahar as Annapurna Circuit trekking that follows Marsyangdi River. The trek is filled with evergreen coniferous forests filled with Rhododendron flowers. The path provides views of snowcapped peaks ofHimalChuli and Manaslu on the east. The trek goes through villages like Bhulbhule, Chanje, Kodo, Dharapani, Chame and Pisanginhabited by many diverse ethnic groups.It continues to Manang valleywell known place for travellers as rest stop to overcome altitude sickness before continuing journey further along. Here we can observe unique cultural atmosphere of the indigenous populace. This is further evident by monasteries and shrines.
The trail from Manang descends to Tilicho Base Camp filled with mountaineers hoping to summit Tilicho peak. The Base camp provides a close up view of Tilicho peak at its full glory along with the great barrier.
Other highlight of this trek includes Jomsom that provides amazing views of Nilgiri peaks as well as Dhaulagiri.Popular for its apple orchards Jomsom is the entry point to Muktinath temple.
Day 1: Kathmandu
As you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu you will be greeted by a designated individual. Then you will be transferred to your hotel where you will be briefed on the set itinerary to make necessary trip preparation.
Day 2: Drive to Beshishar and trek to Bulbule
Early in the morning we begin our journey by a 6-7 hour drive to Beshishar. The route takes us through hilly region of Nepal through terraced farms and perennial rivers. From Beshishar we begin our trek to Bulbule. The trek toBulbule is 2 hours long where we stay overnight.
Day 3: Trek to Chamje
We start our trek that follows a rugged trail that crosses several streams and a big waterfall on the way. We then cross the Marshyangdi River by a suspension bridge and follow the river to the stone village of Jagat. From Jagat village we ascend through a forest to Chamje.
Day 4: Trek to Dharapani
We begin our trek from Chamje to Dharapani on a rocky trail that follows along the Marshyangdi River uphill to Tal village of Manang district.The trail continues through several agricultural fields and waterfalls. We run along the village of Kodo before reaching Dharapani. We spend overnight at Dharapani.
Day 5: Trek to Chame
The trail to Chame leads through forested ridges where breathtaking views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV and LamjungHimal can be observed. There are two small hot springs along the trek to Chame. We spend overnight at Chame.
Day 6: Trek to Pisang
We continue our journey early in the morning along the river banks from Telekhu to Bharatang. We cross the Marshyandi River and continue to ascend through a narrow valley to reach PaungdaDanda. Today's highlights include views of Annapurna II and Pisang Peak. The trail descends to Manang Valley floor to reach Pisang where we spend overnight.
Day 7: Trek to Manang
The trek goes through a steep ridge that offers views of Tilicho peak.We descend past an airstrip at Hongde that overlooks the northeast face of Annapurna III. The path crosses over Marshyandiriver to reach Mungji village. We continue through fields to Bryga and reach Manang. We spend overnight at Manang.
Day 8: Manang
Today is acclimatization day in Manang. We visit to places like Gangapurna Lake and Bhojo Monastery to acclimatize ourselves with cold and high altitude of Manang. We also hike to Vraga village and return back for overnight stay at Manang.
Day 9: Trek to Khangsar Village
The trail of our journey follows down along the path to river and over it. The trek goes through a coniferous forest by a narrow trail. Khangsar village is known for spectacular views of Tilicho peak and the great barrier.
Day 10: Trek to Tilicho Base Camp
The path to Tilicho Base camp is narrow and stony but fairly easy. The trail is also filled with rock formations prone to landslides. The trail descends down to Tilicho Base Camp where we stay overnight.
Day 11: Trek to Tilicho Lake
The trek from the base camp ascends along green pasture where yaks can be sighted grazing. The trail follows along the side of the mountain that reaches to Tilicho Lake. The magnificent reflection of Tilicho peak can be captured on the turquoise lake.
Day 12: Trek to Kaisang after crossing MesoKanta pass
Early morning we cross MesoKanta pass to avoid strong winds in the afternoon. The trail while crossing the pass has Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs on the backdrop. The route descends to Kaisang where we spend overnight.
Day 13: Trek to Jomsom
The trail to Jomsom passes through green hills and slopes that have rhododendron and pine forest. Jomsom lies at a high altitude with backdrop of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. We stay overnight at Jomsom.
Day 14: Flight to Pokhara and return to Kathmandu
We take an early flight to Pokhara after breakfast. The flight is short and highlighted with views of hills and mountains. We return to Kathmandu by either air or by taking a 6 hour drive.In Kathmandu you are free to go sightseeing in different UNESCO world heritage sites.
